2. Putting Sotomayor's 'Wise Latina Woman' Remark in Perspective - June 19, 2009 - The Recorder
The confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor may well be remembered for her "wise Latina woman" remark in her 2001 address in Berkeley to La Raza. If that happens, it would be doubly unfortunate. First, the remark, as the full context of the speech shows, was probably offered tongue-in-cheek, and deserves less attention than it has received. Second, the full context deserves more attention, but it hasn't received it because the "wise Latina woman" quote has absorbed so much notice.

3. Right of the Living Dead - May 8, 2009 - The Recorder
At this year's Academy Awards ceremony, Brad Pitt was nominated for best actor for his role in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." That itself was rather curious because for 52 minutes and 352 shots, Mr. Pitt did not appear in the film.
